First place costume, come on down!

Published November 1, 2012 by krystal

All of our hard work on our costumes paid off!  We won first place for the staff!  After 3 years, we finally did it!  Here is our costume:

Our First Place costumes, 2012

Every morning as we are waiting for the day to begin, the teachers (mostly) (ideally) all stand in the hall to great the kids and make sure they are walking and safe.  Anyhow, so today, I had a cluster of kids standing around oohing and ahhing over my costume.  The youngest ones asked if the gold glitter dots made up numbers.  The middle schoolers would occasionally come by and say, “You’re from The Price is Right!”  One of Joey’s students from a couple of years ago passed by and said, “Again?!?!?!”  I asked him what he meant.  He pointed up toward Joey’s class.  Then I had to explain that there are two people who play the Showcase Showdown.  It was cute.  I love dressing up for Halloween and seeing all the expressions on the kids faces when they first see the costume!

There’s not a lot to say about the costume parade/contest, except that we won, and many of my students did too!  I’m so glad I still have a voice after screaming for all of them to win!

We came home around 4:50 and had a crowd waiting to Trick or Treat.  We told them to hang on a minute, as we had to put our coats away and get the candy out.  They patiently waited, and multiplied a lot.  By the time Joey opened the door, there were 13 Trick or Treaters waiting!  Thirty minutes later we had hit the 100 mark.  It was nuts!  By 7:30 we were so wiped out, we stopped handing out candy at 7:45.  We had 301 total Trick or Treaters!   Freddy, our neighbor even helped out a little while we ate dinner.

Speaking of Freddy, he did not buy any candy to pass out.  Before he even came home he asked if I would make a sign that said he was out of candy.  So at 5:15 a sign went up on his door saying he was out of candy!  There were still many little ghouls and princesses who tried to knock.  Poor Freddy, he was trying to hide out, but they kept knocking!  I had to take a picture of the sign.  The sad pumpkin head in the fetal position was just too funny.

Freddy was always out of candy, he never got any in the first place!

I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Halloween with more treats than tricks!
